Do you enjoy computers? Do you enjoy people? The Millennium Learning Centres (MLC) are looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable volunteers to help people learn to use computers and the Internet in resources centres throughout the Ottawa area.
MLC Volunteers provide one-on-one support and mentoring for computer and Internet users and help in the daily operation of the Centres. Opportunities are usually available throughout the city during the daytime. There are also openings in the evenings and on weekends in some areas.
As a volunteer you would normally work a regular shift every week. During that time you might be showing a new client how to use the computer, assisting a job-seeker to create a resume or search for a job online, helping kids to find information on the Internet for their homework project, faxing a resume for a job-seeker, troubleshooting a printer problem or just providing a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for anyone who comes in — you never know what you might find on a given day!
Some MLC volunteers go on to become MLC Trainers giving group workshops on the use of computers, the Internet and job searching.
